Manchester United caretaker boss Ralf Rangnick has revealed it was Cristiano Ronaldo’s decision not to take the penalty missed by Bruno Fernandes against Arsenal, as fans took to social media to show their frustration.
Ronaldo took and scored from the penalty spot when the two teams met earlier in the season, when United won 3-2 at Old Trafford.
But it was Bruno who stepped in and hit the post this time as the Red Devils lost 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium and Rangnick says the decision was up to Ronaldo.

But Ralf Rangnick says it was Cristiano Ronaldo’s decision to give Fernandes the penalty
He said: “I spoke to him after the game and asked him and he said he just didn’t think he should take it and that’s why he said it would be better if Bruno took it. .”
Fernandes has come under scrutiny from United fans on Twitter, with some saying he shouldn’t have been the one to take the penalty.
One fan tweeted: “Bruno Fernandes or any other player shouldn’t take a penalty when Cristiano Ronaldo is on the pitch.” Period.’

Another accused Fernandes of being a “spoiled child”, saying: “Bruno Fernandes is a spoiled child”. How not to let Ronaldo take this penalty, knowing the importance of the moment. Sums up united season, egos get in the way of players and hurt them
“I still can’t believe they chose @B_Fernandes8 to be our captain when we have @Cristiano. The level of disrespect this team has for Ronaldo is out of this world.” Then Bru-No misses the penalty despite being one of the greatest penalty takers in our team. Wtf is happening? Wrote a third United fan in frustration.
Even Arsenal fan Piers Morgan couldn’t help but joke about the situation. He tweeted: “Big thanks to Bruno Fernandes for insisting on taking United’s penalty when Ronaldo is on the pitch and then doing it.” Comic bad captaincy.
Arsenal took the lead after just three minutes as Nuno Tavares reacted quickly to David De Gea’s save from Bukayo Saka’s strike.

Saka doubled the lead with a 32nd-minute penalty before Ronaldo pulled one back for the visitors two minutes later.
United’s defeat was sealed 20 minutes after Granit Xhaka entered the scoresheet with a powerful long-range strike past De Gea.
Rangnick believes the performance was an improvement on the 4-0 midweek loss to Liverpool, but he regretted part of his side’s defense against the Gunners.
“I think we showed a response, an improved performance compared to the game at Liverpool,” Rangnick said.
“But we still gave an easy goal, an early goal, way too easy, the way we defended at that time, we had two or three chances to clear the ball.”
